Sergeyev Alexei Nikolaevich

Alexei Nikolaevich Sergeev

(May 27, 1925 – September 10, 2006) Lieutenant Colonel

Alexey Nikolaevich Sergeev was born on May 27, 1925 in the village of Korsakov-Klin in the Soletsky district of the Novgorod region. Before the war, he graduated from grades 7 of Ilemenskaya junior High school. From June 1940 to June 1941, he worked as an assistant accountant at the Novaya Zhizn collective farm in the Soletsky district of the Novgorod region.

The path to the partisan detachment lay through the Komsomol underground. A few days after the declaration of war, the Nazis were already on Novgorod land, wreaking death and destruction on the occupied territory. The people's War against the fascist occupiers assumed an increasingly broad offensive character. Both old and young took up arms. Those who could not wield weapons or did not have them, they harmed the enemy in any way they could. During the day, an underground Komsomol organization was organized in the village. It was headed by Ivan Andreev, nicknamed Enkin. Sixteen-year-old Leshka Sergeev joined it. There were only 12 boys and girls. The fascists really cried from them! Communication was promptly established with the 5th partisan brigade, which was stationed in the forests of the Leningrad region, and work began.

Partisan Alexei Sergeev
Children of war, they broke off the nipples on the wheels of German cars, disabling batteries, counted enemy echelons, scouted - where, how many Germans, what firing points, what weapons. The information was passed on to the partisans. Trains were derailed, commandant's offices were burning, blown up cars were flying into ditches. Young underground fighters fought the enemy as best they could.

They organised their raids so that suspicion would not fall on their native village, so they went far into the forests.
Their «mischief» did not go unnoticed not only by the fascists, but also by their own people. The boys began to receive specific tasks and acted in an organised, more active and effective manner. They distributed leaflets, collected weapons and ammunition, smuggled explosives, called the right people, collected information about the number of German troops in the area, information about passing railway trains and passed it all to the partisans.

But there was a traitor in the village. It was impossible to stay in the native village. They had to leave. So Alexei Sergeyev became a fighter of the 4th partisan regiment, the 5th Leningrad partisan brigade.

During the partisan struggle against Nazi invaders, Alexei participated in the defeat of Nazi garrisons at the railway stations Lemenka, Morino (1943). In 1943 he received his first and the most dear to him award - the medal «For combat merits». In January 1944 he carried out the task of the partisan command to undermine the railway bed («Rail War»), which prevented the delivery of troops and equipment to Leningrad. Together with his comrades and troops of the Volkhov Front he participated in breaking the blockade of Leningrad.

From the recollections of A. N. Sergeev
In March 1944, after the Soviet troops broke the siege of Leningrad, the 5th partisan brigade was disbanded. Already in March 1944 he was drafted into the Soviet Army by Leninsky RVC of Leningrad. From May 1944 to June 1944 Sergeyev Alexey Nikolaevich was a sergeant, commander of a squad of the 314th rifle division of the 1076th rifle regiment. The Leningrad Front during the offensive on the town of Vyborg presented a difficult battle in the rocky and woodland areas, as well as in the town itself when the Nazis were being eliminated in the buildings. For the liberation of the town of Vyborg the 1076th infantry regiment was given the title of Vyborg regiment. Having received a wound, the company commander was replaced by the platoon commander, and Alexey Sergeev was ordered to take command of the platoon as the first squad commander. All the tasks assigned to the platoon were accomplished.
On 28 June 1944 in the battles for the liberation of Vyborg Alexey was wounded. From 28 June to September 1944 he was hospitalised in the 264th hospital in Leningrad. There he received the news of death of his brother Pavel.

After recovery he was sent to the 497th Rifle Regiment, 135th Rifle Division with the rank of sergeant, squad commander. This was the 1st Ukrainian front. There Alexey Nikolaevich took part in the Vistula-Oder operation. There were fights for liberation of Kotowice, Maslowica in Poland, liberation of other cities in Poland and Germany. Especially heavy were the battles for the Oder. After this battle he was sent to the courses of junior officers of the 1st Ukrainian Front.

He met Victory, having not reached Berlin 40 kilometres at the front courses of junior officers of the 1st Ukrainian Front. He regretted it for a long time, only 40 kilometres before reaching Berlin!

Then were studies in the Second Tashkent Machine Gun School (August-December 1945, Termez, Turkestan Military District), Ashgabat Infantry School (December 1945 - July 1946, Tashkent, Turkestan Military District), and again - in the Tashkent Infantry School named after Lenin (August 1946 - September 1948, Tashkent, Turkestan Military District). V.I. Lenin (August 1946 - September 1948, Tashkent, Turkestan Military District). He wanted to go to Germany, he wanted to see the Reichstag. But he didn't have a chance. At this time, the former commander of the 1st Ukrainian Front General of the Army Ivan Petrov was appointed to the post of commander of the Turkestan Military District. Knowing well that among the graduates of the school are many of those with whom he beat the Nazis in the war years, Ivan Efimovich managed to convince the green platoon: ‘You will leave, I will stay here with whom?’. These words had a stronger effect than the order. So Alexei Sergeyev stayed in the service in Kushka. Then a proverb appeared among military men: they won't give you less than a platoon, they won't send you further than Kushka.
